Project overview

Redesigned the Beneficiary module for ATRF’s MyPension portal to support Members, Pension Partners, and Nominees within a single, accessible framework. Replaced direct edits with a secure Request Status Update flow, improving clarity, accessibility, and confidence when managing sensitive information.

Problem

The Beneficiary module evolved into fragmented, role-specific flows with inconsistent permissions, UI states, and accessibility support. Users were often unsure what actions they could take, leading to confusion and increased support requests.

Approach

Unify beneficiary workflows across roles while respecting permissions

  • Clarify what users can view, edit, or request

  • Improve accessibility for sensitive, form-heavy interactions

  • Establish reusable patterns for future modules

Solution

Role-Aware, Task-Consistent Framework

All user roles share a consistent interaction model, with permissions clearly communicated through UI states and messaging.

  • Members: Create or request beneficiary updates in a guided flow

  • Pension Partners: Submit update requests via a secure form with document upload

  • Nominees: Read-only access using the same layout for familiarity

Request Status Update Flow

Direct edits were replaced with a structured request flow:

  • Select change type

  • Provide supporting details

  • Upload documents

  • Submit for ATRF review with confirmation and reference number

This improved security, clarity, and user confidence.

Accessibility & Reusable Components

  • Clear permission messaging and disabled states with explanations

  • Inline validation and consistent success/error feedback

  • Shared MUI-based components (inputs, upload, confirmation)

  • Designed to WCAG 2.1 AA standards

Result

While full implementation was paused due to budget shifts, the redesign established a scalable, accessible foundation for managing sensitive data.

Projected outcomes:

  • Improved task completion through simplified flows

  • Reduced support requests related to permissions

  • Increased trust and confidence across all user roles
